The owner of the club “Die Sonne von Mexiko” has died, and now it’s time to give him a proper farewell. To do so, his friends and family are exercising their right to lay him in state for 36 hours at their home in the club of the same name. As “Die Sonne von Mexiko” had hoped, this long night will certainly not be a hypocritical or gloomy affair. His life will be celebrated to the fullest one last time before “Die Sonne” awakens in the realm of the dead.

KANDELABRA by the collective theatrum litfaßsäule is a multi-disciplinary performance centered around the death of the semi-fictional Berlin club owner “Die Sonne von Mexiko.” Based on true events, KANDELABRA presents ways of dealing with the dead that seem unconventional for our society. But what constitutes appropriate treatment of the deceased? And how can this be practiced collectively and communally in an urban context? To answer these questions, KANDELABRA presents various intercultural concepts and legal options.
